Recognising and Solving Special Function ODEs

Code to recognise and hence solve the second-order linear ODEs that define the special functions of mathematical physics is being developed for the Reduce ODE solver. It allows an arbitrary, possibly symbolic, affine transformation of the independent variable. At first sight, the problem appears to be one of pattern matching or table look-up, but simple special-purpose code written for each cla...

Solving ODEs with MATLAB

This book is for people who need to solve ordinary differential equations (ODEs), both initial value problems (IVPs) and boundary value problems (BVPs) as well as delay differential equations (DDEs). These topics are usually taught in separate courses of length one semester each, but Solving ODEs with MATLAB provides a sound treatment of all three in about 250 pages. The chapters on each of the...

First Integrals of a Special System of Odes (TECHNICAL NOTE)

In this paper we suggest a method to calculate the first integrals of a special system of the first order of differential equations. Then we use the method for finding the solutions of some differential equations such as, the differential equation of RLC circuit.

SOLVING SINGULAR ODES IN UNBOUNDED DOMAINS WITH SINC-COLLOCATION METHOD

Spectral approximations for ODEs in unbounded domains have only received limited attention. In many applicable problems, singular initial value problems arise. In solving these problems, most of numerical methods have difficulties and often could not pass the singular point successfully. In this paper, we apply the sinc-collocation method for solving singular initial value problems. The ability...

A detection framework for locating phonetic events

We consider the problem of detecting stop consonants in continuously spoken speech. We pose the problem as one of finding the optimal filter (linear or non-linear) that operates on a particular appropriately chosen representation. We discuss the performance of several variants of a canonical stop detector and consider its implications for human and machine speech recognition.
